The Krotons

Zoe Heriot - Wendy Padbury

Battling against the Kroton's vast scientific knowledge, the Doctor and Zoe must stop them turning mental power into pure energy. With a brave band of Gonds and Jamie prepared to fight to the end, it may be defeat for the Krotons, but ultimately it will be a test of knowledge that only Doctor Who can match...

Review [***]
I like this story. I really do! The reasons are two: The story is well written and rather intriguing, featuring the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe on the planet Gond, where they come upon a strange test where the brightest of the planets inhabitants, the Gonds, enter a strange machine to be one with its masters, The Krotons. Of course, the Doctor soon realises that the Krotons are absorbing the mental powers of the Gonds, killing them in the process.

Reason number two is that although the Krotons look stupid, their voices are great, making them efficient villains. Of course, there are things about this story that aren't so good. The budget must have been smaller than usual, making for some truly pitiful scenes. And, as mentioned above, the Krotons looks like egg cartons.

The regulars perform well as usual. But the rest of the cast? Well, some are ok, some are not, though it's nothing that is truly as annoying as that shot of the gond city where you can clearly see it's a bunch of pebbles in sand. Overall, a good story that has been let down by a meager budget.
