The Sea-Monkeys Mission to Mars has offically begun today. I secretly ordered this kit last week and
when I got home from work it was waiting on me, as was my exasperated wife who seemed to be annoyed at
my purchasing all these kits... cretin! Sea-Monkeys are fun. The Mars kit on first glance seems to be
about the same kit as the Magic Castle, but it's not. The Mars kit is a Martian landscape complete
with a Mars lander and a Sea-Monkeynaut all under a bell jar. But the bell jar is taller and skinnier
than the Magic Castle bell jar. Of course it comes complete with everything you need to make Sea-Monkeys
and an aqua-leash, but this one says it needs more aeration than the other kits so I will pay special
attention to it. Here are the first pictures of the new tank right after I added Packet #1. The 24 hour
wait is looming ahead now, and then we will make magic again.
Until then here is an update on the other two tanks beginning with the Magic Castle. Of the two
experiments the castle seems to have come out on top. There is a big male in the castle tank and he is
letting all the rest know he is the boss. You can see his grabbers on his head really good... they look
almost like antlers and he zooms around the tank and frequently pushes the others around, I think I will
call him "Spike". Over in the Ghostly Galleon tank there are at least four adults that I can see, one
of those is a big bull and he has visible antler-like grabbers as well. He zooms around the tank and likes
to skim the top of the tank with his feet breaking the surface of the water like a shark, I think I will
call him "Jaws". Lots of baby Sea-Monkeys have recently appeared in the galleon tank and now they are starting to get a little
size on them... Maybe Jaws has been busy with his harem... who knows.
One of the really nice features of the Mars tank is that there is a clear sticker on the side with a
fill mark on it so you don't have guess how much water to put in the tank. I will be closely watching
all three experiments for the next few days and giving updates only when major events occur from now
on. The Mars tank will be taking the center ring as the latest experiment and I hope to have three thriving
Sea-Monkey colonies in the next few weeks. Watching the activities of the bulls in the two current tanks has lead us to the
conclusion that it would probably be a bad idea to allow them to mix, so I doubt I will be doing
any tank transfering of Sea-Monkeys. As soon as the Sea-Monkeys in the Mars tank are visible I will
get some new shots of them and update this journal.
