Godzilla × MechaGodzilla
***½
Back for his 24th outing, Godzilla returns to face an updated adversary very familiar to monster fans. Fast paced with kinetic fight scenes, this entry is unlikely to disappoint fans of Japans most famous export. But audiences may have a nagging sense that this has all been done before.

After Godzilla destroyed Tokyo in 1954, the Japanese government created the elite strike force AMMT (for Anti-Mega Monster Troop). Armed with advanced weaponry, they successfully defend Japan from giant monsters until 1999, when Godzilla returns to devastate Japan. Shocked by their failure, the Japanese government seeks to create the ultimate weapon to destroy Godzilla.

The result is Kiryu (Mechanical Dragon), essentially Godzilla in mechanical form (Mechagodzilla). Created using some of the monster's own DNA as a blueprint, Kiryu boasts a formidable array of weapons as well as the ability to engage Godzilla in hand-to-hand combat. When Godzilla returns with destruction on his mind, the scene is set for the ultimate showdown between nature and machine.
