And now a word or two about the 1998 (and might I say, crappy) film that Sony/TriStar/Centropolis put out and all of you rushed to theaters to see and then ran out to the video stores to rent or buy. I was so hoping for this to be a cool kick-ass movie. Boy what a disappointment! This could have been so much more, but as it is, the Godzilla in this movie is nothing more than a Jurassic Park T-rex with spines on its back! I think a better name for it is Notzilla, because it is NOT Godzilla. Basically this movie is just a bad remake of
Beast From 20,000 Fathoms!
I will say the S-FX were pretty good, but Godzilla without atomic breath is like Flash without super-speed or Superman without the ability to fly! Give me a break! According to the movie officals the atomic breath would be just too unbelievable... so I suppose a 30 story tall radioactive lizard creature is! Geesh... What were these fools thinking! Godzilla's atomic breath is what sets him appart from all the rest of the Toho monsters!
What is this crap about Godzilla laying eggs? Godzilla is not a chick he's a dude! Asexual my ass! If it lays eggs its a female. I guess Godzilla is now the queen of monsters.
Since when have rockets ever hurt Godzilla? This was what truely made me angry! The Real Godzilla used to get missles and rockets fired at him all the time and all it did was piss him off. A big honking torpedo only knocks it out but they fire a few rockets from a jet and it dies? Yeah, right... I give up!
Finally, Godzilla should have stomped the shit out of Tokyo before he stomped the shit out New York! These people need to go back and watch the original movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters and find out what Godzilla was all about!
